On February 7 at Firmdale’s newly opened Warren Street Hotel in Tribeca, New York, Kravet celebrated renowned British fabric and wallpaper house GP & J Baker’s latest collaboration with visionary designer Kit Kemp, a collection of imaginatively patterned fabrics and wallcoverings.
Kemp and managing and creative director for GP & J Baker Ann Grafton welcomed more than 60 attendees in the hotel’s airy and light-filled Orangery. Cary, Lisa, Scott and Sander Kravet were also on hand to toast to the designer’s new collection.
Seamlessly blending Kemp’s signature eclectic style with GP & J Baker’s rich heritage and design expertise, the collection comprises intriguing new prints, artisanal stripes and a lush, all-purpose linen, each available as both a wallcovering and upholstery fabric. The colorful range offers designers an irresistible opportunity to infuse their projects with individuality and distinctive style.
“This has been such a wonderful meeting of minds and love of fabrics and textiles of every kind,” said Kemp. “We have always seen Ann Grafton as a powerhouse of the fabric world, so the opportunity to work with her, her remarkable team and the GP & J Baker archive has been an adventure for both of us from start to finish.”
Referring to the pattern featured on the curtains framing the entryway to the space, she continued: “The romance of the Orangery at the Warren Street Hotel provided the perfect setting for A Knight’s Tale, re-covered in fuchsia.” In contrast to the city’s typical February chill, the deep pink hue presented a warm welcome. “It is a great escape from the New York winter into a wonderland,” said Kemp. “The collection, which is eclectic and modern but very cohesive, works together to make any space the most joyful place to be.”
